Which License Fits Your QA Team?
Every Geomagic Control X license is configured with one of three activation methods. The activation determines how the license is bound to a machine or shared across your team. The software capability is identical -- pricing and portability differ.
The license is tied to a single named workstation and activated online via Hexagon's license server. The lowest-cost option, available on every Control X tier including Essentials.
The license travels with a Geomagic-branded USB dongle. Plug it into any Windows machine and Control X runs -- no internet required after install. Same list price as ONA on Essentials Connect and Premium; the dongle hardware is sold separately ($550).
A pool of seats lives on a network license server (Hexagon RMS). Any team member checks out a seat as needed; the seat returns to the pool when they exit. Premium pricing reflects shared utilization. Not available on Essentials.

What's the difference between Essentials, Essentials Connect, and Premium?
Essentials ($7,249 perpetual, ONA only) is the entry tier -- full GD&T inspection from imported scan data. Essentials Connect ($9,355 ONA / $9,996 OFD / $12,995 NWA perpetual) is Essentials plus the probing module for direct CMM and portable-arm data capture, with all 3 license types. Premium ($5,520/yr ONA-OFD or $7,176 NWA subscription; $16,727 / $21,745 perpetual) is the full toolset -- advanced inspection wizards, airfoil/turbine analysis, Model Manager batch automation, and direct scanner integration.
What's the difference between ONA, OFD, and NWA?
ONA (Online Named) ties the license to one computer via online activation -- lowest cost, no hardware key. OFD (Offline Dongle) uses a USB dongle so the license travels to any machine; the dongle is sold separately at $550. NWA (Network Float) hosts a pool of seats on your license server so the QA team shares licenses concurrently -- premium pricing reflects shared utilization. Essentials is ONA-only.
Does Control X work with our existing scanner or CMM?
Yes -- all tiers import STL, OBJ, PLY, E57, and dozens of native scanner formats from any device. Essentials Connect and Premium add direct in-software control of Hexagon, FARO, and Scantech scanners and portable arms, so the probe and inspection both live in Control X.
Can I get a free trial before purchasing?
Yes. Geomagic Control X offers a 14-day fully-functional free trial. Request access through Rev1 -- we'll get you installer access plus a guided onboarding session so you see real inspection results on day one.
Subscription or perpetual license -- which is better?
Subscription (annual, Premium only) is lowest entry cost and includes updates and support during the term. Perpetual license + 1st year maintenance is a higher one-time investment ($7,249 to $21,745 depending on tier & license type); you own the license forever and renew maintenance only if you want continued updates. Essentials and Essentials Connect are perpetual-only.
What reports does Control X produce?
3D PDFs (interactive, viewable by non-engineers), web-viewable HTML, Excel/CSV, and customizable report templates with deviation color maps. Reports are auditable -- every dimension traces back to the source scan data.
Can I upgrade from Essentials to Premium later?
Yes. Control X is structured for tier upgrades. Contact Rev1 and we'll coordinate the upgrade with Hexagon -- applying any credit from your existing license toward the higher tier.
Do you bundle Control X with Design X for full reverse-engineering + inspection?
Yes. The Design X / Control X Inspection Suite combines reverse engineering and dimensional inspection at a bundle discount -- $30,404 ONA Pro suite vs. $38,767 buying separately. Suite maintenance renewal is $4,636/yr ONA. Education suites are also available.
